Donn the Beachcomber’s Classic Tiki drink that deftly blends what could otherwise be an overpowering amount of rum into something dangerously delicious
The molasses, vanilla, and black tea notes from the three different rums are cut by refreshing citrus, cinnamon, clove, pomegranate, anise, and spice notes. With 5 oz of booze, this is really two drinks (approach with caution lest you resemble the drink’s name)
1.5 oz Blended Aged Rum (El Dorado 8 yr or Doorly’s are good options)
1.5 oz Column Still Aged Rum (Ron Abuelo, Angostura 1919, or Bacardi 8 are good options)
1 oz Black Blended Overproof Rum (Plantation OFTD, Lemonhart 151, etc)
.5 oz Velvet Falernum (Rum based liqueur with clove and lime zest notes)
.75 oz Fresh Lime Juice
.25 oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice (white or Oro Blanco variety give useful tart notes vs ruby red)
.25 oz Cinnamon Syrup (crush 3-4 cinnamon sticks in equal parts granulated sugar and water, stir on low heat until sugar dissolves; simmer 5 minutes, strain out cinnamon bark)
1 tsp grenadine (or equal parts pomegranate molasses and simple syrup)
1 dash Herbsaint/Absinthe/Pernod
1 dash Angostura
Shake with ice, strain into Collins glass with crushed ice. Garnish with a mint sprig
