You Don’t Win Friends With Salad?

A delicious, savory Martini riff that takes inspiration from Devon Tarby’s Watercress and Dennis Gobis’ Bjorn Supremacy 🥗
Muddling the watercress in the vermouth imparts a peppery note to the drink that works very well with the juniper and other botanicals in the gin and the floral and bittersweet notes in the Malort. The addition of a bit of peach liqueur adds a subtle counterpoint of fruit, much like adding dried apricot or cranberry to a salad with bitter leaves helps add contrast. The vermouth softens and rounds out the drink while bridging the flavors.
Counter to Homer’s wisdom, you might actually win friends with this salad(-inspired drink)
Muddle handful of watercress in .75 oz of Blanc/Bianco Vermouth before straining out the watercress
Add:
1.5 oz Gin (slightly softer, less juniper forward bottle like Plymouth, St George Botanivore, or Four Pillars is best)
.5 oz Malort (Scandinavian bittersweet liqueur; don’t use Jeppson’s; Few and Letherbee make nice versions)
.25 oz Peach Liqueur (Giffard, Rothman & Winter, etc)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. No garnish (though a small, pickled pearl onion would probably be nice)
