Yellow Bird

A nuanced, yet delicious re-imagining by super-talented NYC drink guru Garret Richard of a forgotten tropical-leaning Daiquiri riff 🐤 The blended lightly aged rum brings notes of tropical fruit and custard that work very nicely with the vanilla and spice notes in the Galliano (the “yellow” in the drink’s name) while the lime juice and orange liqueur bring needed acidity and citrus flavor. The addition of a few drops of concentrated saline solution helps all of the individual flavors stand out 1.5 oz Blended Lightly Aged Rum (Plantation 3 Stars, Cana Brava, etc) .75 oz Galliano (vanilla and spice accented yellow liqueur that was popular in the 70s classic drink the Harvey Wallbanger) .5 oz Orange Liqueur (bottle with neutral spirit base like Cointreau or Combier is best) .5 oz Fresh Lime Juice Tsp Rich Simple Syrup (2 parts unrefined sugar of choice: 1 part water; stir until dissolved) Zest of 1/4 - 1/2 lime 5 drops saline solution (4 volumes water: 1 volume salt; stir until dissolved) Shake with ice and double strain into a chilled coupe.
