A refreshing, elegant Daiquiri/Sour riff that emphasizes the affinity of gin for Earl Grey tea along with some fresh strawberries just coming into season 🍵🍓🌺 The citrus/tannin/bergamot notes in the black tea work very well with the botanicals used in the gin while the malort contributes floral accents and provides a contrasting bittersweet undertone. The honey/lemon/strawberry flavors work together to provide some complementary notes of acidity, sweetness, and fruit flavor/color while the black tea flavor is boosted by the Bergamot bitters
Muddle 2-3 strawberries (hulled and quartered) in .5 oz Earl Grey Syrup (equal volumes warm, freshly brewed Earl Grey tea and honey; stir until dissolved; remainder keeps 1-2 weeks in refrigerator)
Add:
1.5 oz Gin (Softer gin that works well with Citrus like Plymouth, Four Pillars, etc is best)
.5 oz Malort (Swedish-American bitter liqueur; Few and Letherbee in Chicago area both make excellent versions; avoid Jeppson’s)
Scant .75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.25 oz Cocchi Americano (White wine-based aperitivo that adds a bit of bittersweetness, body)
2 dashes Miracle Mile Bergamot Bitters
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. No garnish
