An elegant yet delicious Negroni riff from Death & Co Denver with notes of smoke, spice, and bittersweetness 🌶
The blend of agave spirits contribute notes of butterscotch, citrus zest, smoke, and a touch of baking spice that work nicely with the orange peel, cocoa, and other bittersweet notes in the Cynar, amaro, and sweet vermouth while the Ancho chile liqueur adds complementary spice notes and the bitters tie the flavors together .75 oz Mezcal (Espadin variety)
.75 oz Reposado Tequila (El Tesoro, Arette, etc)
.5 oz Cynar (medium bittersweet Italian Amaro)
.5 oz Punt e Mes (bittersweet vermouth; can hack by adding 3 parts Cocchi Vermouth di Torino to 1 part of a bittersweet Amaro like Lucano or Montenegro)
.5 oz Ancho Chile liqueur (Ancho Reyes)
2 dashes Celery Bitters (Bitter Truth, Fee Brothers, etc)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with an orange or grapefruit half moon
