Titanic Rising

A cool, refreshing summer Highball with some subtle bittersweet undertones 🍉🥒 The gin and unaged aquavit provide a flavorful base of juniper, star anise, and other spices and botanicals that play nicely with both the watermelon and salted cucumber cordial. The lime juice adds needed acidity to balance the drink and the splash of Campari and dash of Peychaud’s bitters add a juicy bittersweet note that lends depth and complements the watermelon and citrus. The club soda adds effervescence 1.5 oz Gin (bottle that isn’t juniper-forward like Plymouth or Four Pillars is nice) .5 oz unaged Aquavit (Krogstad from House Spirits is a nice option with a star anise note that works well here) 1 oz Fresh Watermelon Juice (can blend and strain or juice watermelon after removing rind) .5 oz Salted Cucumber Cordial (Dice one cucumber and blend with 1 Cup water and 1 tsp kosher salt; strain and measure. Add equal volume to yield of granulated sugar and stir/blend until sugar is dissolved) .5 oz Fresh Lime Juice .25 oz Campari (or other red aperitivo of choice) 1 dash Peychaud’s Bitters (have complementary anise note) Shake with ice and strain into a chilled Collins glass with ice cubes. Top with 1-1.5 oz Club Soda. Garnish with a lime or cucumber wheel
