The Pen is Mightier

A comforting yet boozy cold weather Old Fashioned riff with notes of baking spice and smoke 🥃
The ex-bourbon barrel aged rum works nicely with the notes of allspice and cacao from the liqueurs while the Islay single malt brings notes of toffee and smoke and the bitters bring notes of orange zest
1.5 oz Aged Rum (Ex Bourbon barrel options like Real McCoy 12 yr or Foursquare are great)
Scant .5 oz Islay Single Malt Scotch (Bruichladdich Port Charlotte, Caol Ila 12, Laphroaig 10)
.25 oz Creme de Cacao (Tempus Fugit)
.25 oz Allspice Liqueur (St Elizabeth or Dale Degroff)
2 dashes Orange Bitters (I like to mix equal parts of spice forward Regan’s #6 and juicy Angostura Orange)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with the essential oils from a lemon twist (discard the twist)
