The Highlander

A comforting, rich Old Fashioned riff from excellent San Diego bar Polite Provisions 🥃 The blend of Highland and Islay scotch whiskies lends notes of cereal grain, honey, peat, and a touch of sherry that work beautifully with the honey and saffron notes in the Benedictine. The Aromatic bitters add a touch of spice and bittersweet flavor 1.5 oz Highland Scotch (recommend either a quality blended malt like Douglas Laing or your favorite Highland single malt) .5 oz Islay Single Malt Scotch (Bruichladdich Port Charlotte, Laguvulin 8 yr, Ardbeg 10 yr, etc) .25 oz Benedictine (French liqueur that is smooth and a bit floral in aroma with hints of honey, saffron) 2 dashes Bitter Truth Aromatic Bitters (Angostura or Abbott’s would sub well) Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with a lemon twist
