The Card Cheat

a refreshing yet robustly flavored Amaretto/Whiskey Sour riff with flavors of ripe cherries, citrus, almonds, and subtle smoke 🥃🍒🍋🍊🥜
The Campbeltown and Islay scotch provide notes of honey, toffee, nuts, and subtle smoke that work very well with the almond biscotti notes in the Amaretto and the cherry notes (from three sources: muddled fresh cherries, cherry Eau de vie, maraschino liqueur). Fresh lemon juice adds some acidic zip while orange liqueur and orgeat help boost the almond and citrus notes. A delicious drink for a late spring evening
Muddle 3 pitted cherries in .25 oz Maraschino Liqueur (Luxardo; Leopold Brothers, etc)
1 oz Campbeltown malt Scotch (Springbank 10 yr is a really good option)
.5 oz Amaretto (almond liqueur; Caffo, Lazzaroni, etc)
.25 oz Cherry Eau de Vie/Kirschwasser (Clear Creek, Rhine Hall, etc)
.25 oz Islay Scotch (Laphroaig 10 yr, Caol Ila 12 yr, Port Charlotte 10, etc)
.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.25 oz Orgeat (Almond syrup; Small Hand Foods, etc)
.25 oz Orange Liqueur (Mandarin Napoleon has a nice fresh citrus flavor; Grand Marnier is probably best sub but Cointreau probably also works)
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with a lemon twist
