A Venezuelan rum-based take on a Manhattan named in honor of another famed Venezuelan, Andres Galarraga
The deep berry flavor combines with the molasses and cola notes in the two rums and the cocoa notes in the vermouth to give a deep, yet fruity flavor reminiscent of Cherry Coke (with tasty rum finish instead of soda) while the bit of Aged balsamic cuts the sweetness and adds nuance
1.5 oz Blended Aged Rum (the deeply flavorful Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva is recommended)
.5 oz Dark Overproof Rum (Golden Devil Dark Overproof is great, but has limited distribution; Plantation OFTD is an excellent sub)
.5 oz Sweet Vermouth (more spice-forward options like Carpano or Lo-Fi are recommended)
.25 oz Creme de Cassis (French black currant liqueur with deep berry flavor)
Barspoon Aged Balsamic Vinegar
2 dashes Aromatic Bitters (Angostura, Abbott’s, Miracle Mile Forbidden, etc)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a few ice cubes
