A comforting Old Fashioned riff from SLC’s Post Office Place with earthy, nutty notes 🥃🍵 The cereal grain and honey notes in the Japanese blended malt work nicely with the baking spice notes in the rye to create a flavorful canvas for the syrup infused with Japanese green tea with toasted rice (Genmaicha) and the pecan bitters. The essential oils from the orange twist add a pleasant citrus aroma 1 oz Blended Japanese Malt Whisky (Nikka Coffey Malt; St George Baller, etc) 1 oz Rye Whiskey (bottled in bond options like Rittenhouse or New Riff offer more concentrated flavor) .25 oz Genmaicha Syrup (mix 2 volumes of granulated sugar with 1 volume of water and stir on medium heat until near boil and sugar has dissolved; remove from heat and add 1/2-1 tsp Genmaicha tea (depending on volume of syrup) and steep for 5 minutes before straining) 2 dashes Walnut or Pecan Bitters (Fee Brothers, Miracle Mile, El Guapo, etc) Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with the essential oils from an orange twist (discard the twist)
