A rich, full flavored Old Fashioned riff from NYC bartender Ivy Mix that is reminiscent of a delicious iced coffee with tropical aromas ☕️🏝 The molasses, brown sugar, and coffee notes in the blended dark rum and blackstrap rum work with the funk and tropical fruit aromas of the pot-stilled Jamaican rum to produce a flavorful base that is augmented by the creamy, almond-forward flavor of the orgeat, the coffee/root beer notes of the aromatic bitters and the citrus aroma from the orange twist
1 oz Pot Still Lightly Aged Jamaican Rum (Smith & Cross, Hampden)
.5 oz Blended Lightly Aged Dark Rum (Coruba, Gosling’s, etc)
.5 oz Blackstrap Rum (Cruzan makes a nice bottle at a very nice price)
.25 oz Orgeat (Small Hand Foods or your favorite local purveyor)
2 dashes Aromatic Bitters of Choice (Bitter Truth Aromatic, Angoatura, Abbott’s, etc)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with the essential oils from an orange twist (discard the twist)
