Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

A robust, flavorful Negroni riff for Negroni Week with flavors of Mexican chocolate and hints of smoke and citrus zest The citrus zest notes in the Blanco tequila and smoke notes in the mezcal works nicely with the juicy yet bittersweet Campari to provide a nice base that is accented by the cinnamon/rhubarb/orange peel notes in the amaro, the cocoa and spice notes in the vermouth, and the coffee notes in the liqueur. The orange twist adds a refreshing citrus aroma .75 oz Blanco Tequila (100% agave; El Tesoro, Tapatio, Fortaleza, etc) .25 oz Mezcal (Espadin variety) 1 oz Campari (or other red aperitivo of choice) .5 oz Sweet Vermouth (Cocchi di Torino or Carpano is nice here) Tsp Amaro Dell’Etna (medium bittersweet amaro from Sicily with notes of cinnamon, rhubarb, orange peel) Tsp Coffee Liqueur (St George NOLA, Mr Black, Galliano Ristretto, etc) Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a few ice cubes.
