Second Line Season

An elegant, autumnal sipper that riffs off of the Sidecar from NOLA’s Jewel of the South (new venture from two city drink titans, Chris Hannah and Nick Detrich)
The ripe apple (and subtle pear) flavors from the Calvados are complemented by the subtle bittersweet orange and funky cherry notes from the liqueur and the spice from the bitters while the lemon adds a tartness that reminds one of a crisp, dry cider. The sugar rim and grated nutmeg also add a bit of sweetness and spice
2 oz Apple Brandy (Calvados like Hubert or Lemorton Reserve are best, but an aged American apple brandy would also be nice)
.5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
2 tsp Amaro Montenegro (Italian Amaro with light bitterness with orange peel and black cherry notes)
1 tsp Maraschino Liqueur (Luxardo makes a nice version, adds some funky notes with subtle cherry/vanilla sweetness in background)
2 dashes Bokers Bitters (historical early Aromatic Bitters, Bitter Truth Aromatic is probably closest sub)
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass that has a granulated sugar half rim (rub edge of half of glass with lemon wedge) and a few ice cubes. Garnish with an apple fan and freshly grated nutmeg
