Phoenix Rising

A refreshing Daiquiri riff from Alicia Perry of SD’s really fun Polite Provisions with intriguing notes of smoke and tamarind
The citrus and baking spice notes in the reposado tequila work with the tropical fruit and smoke notes in the Mezcal to provide a flavorful base that pairs very well with the intriguing sweet/tart notes of the tamarind syrup and the lime and grapefruit juice blend
1.5 oz Reposado Tequila (Arette, El Tesoro are excellent; Espolon or Los Altos also work)
.5 oz Mezcal (Espadin variety)
.5 oz Tamarind Syrup (Caged Heat also brings a bit of a spicy kick to the end of each sip)
.5 oz Fresh Lime Juice .5 oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice (if you can find the white Oro blanco varieties available during winter citrus season, even better)
Tsp Rich Simple Syrup (2 parts unrefined sugar of choice to 1 part warm water; stir until dissolved)
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a grapefruit twist or lime wheel
