Pennsylvania Dutch

An autumnal brandy/rum Manhattan variation from Jeffrey Morgenthaler of Portland’s excellent Clyde Common
The pear brandy brings out the fruit and floral notes in the rum while the Cardamaro brings a bit of lightly bittersweet flavor and the Nocino brings a brown sugar note with additional walnut flavors and the Bitters add a note of citrus/sumac that is amplified by the essential oils from the lemon twist
0.5 oz Blended Lightly Aged Rum (Diplomatico Planas, Plantation 3 star, El Dorado 3 yr, etc)
1.5 oz Pear Brandy (St George makes my favorite)
.5 oz Cardamaro (Italian Amaro with lightly bittersweet flavor and a hint of spice)
.25 oz Nocino (Italian walnut liqueur)
2 dashes Bitter End Moroccan Bitters
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist
