Parts Unknown

Dedicated to the inspirational, sadly departed Anthony Bourdain; RIP. This boozy, globe-trotting Old-Fashioned Riff pulls seemingly disparate spirits and flavors from across the world and shows that things can come together in delightful ways in spite of surface differences. The funk of the Indonesian Batavia Arrack mingles with the apple and pear notes in the Calvados (from Domfrontais in France) which itself integrates nicely with the spice and oak of the bourbon and the molasses notes in the Guyanese rum. The bitters show that Mexican and North African spices are complementary and the Italian Amaro lends a touch of bitterness
1 oz Bourbon
.5 oz Blended Aged Rum (El Dorado 12 is a great choice)
.25 oz Calvados (French brandy distilled from apples (and sometimes pears))
.25 oz Batavia Arrack (van Oosten is the bottle, slightly funky rum antecedent)
Barspoon Amaro Montenegro
Barspoon Rich Simple Syrup (1:1)
2 dashes Bitter End Moroccan Bitters
2 dashes Chocolate Mole Bitters
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with a lemon twist
