Paniolo Old Fashioned

A tropical, rummy Old Fashioned with a Hawaiian accent from SF’s grand Smuggler’s Cove The sweet and savory (and slightly fruity) notes from the Hawaii via Asia Li Hing Mui (preserved plum) syrup provides a lovely accent to the delicious vanilla and molasses rum notes while the bitters add a bit of spice to tie things together 2 oz Blended Aged Rum (several options; El Do 12, Diplomatico Reserva, Real McCoy, etc) 1 teaspoon Li Hing Mui Syrup (2 teaspoons Li Hing Mui powder per 2 cups granulated sugar: 1 cup water; feel free to scale up or down) 1 dash Angostura Bitters 1 dash Miracle Mile Ume Bitters* Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with an orange twist *Optional addition to boost the preserved plum flavor
