Ozymandias

A rich, yet bittersweet Manhattan riff from Nickel Morris of Louisville bar Expo that packs notes of caramel, baking spice and orange 🥃
The blend of bonded rye whiskey and overproof brandy/Cognac builds a base with notes of caramelized sugar, baking spice, and some subtle fruit notes (from the brandy) that play nicely with both the bright orange peel notes and bittersweetness of the Amaro and the honey and saffron notes in the Benedictine. Sweet vermouth adds some spice and cocoa notes while a dash of bitters with notes of ginger and cinnamon help tie the flavors together
.75 oz Rye Whiskey (Bonded options like Rittenhouse or New Riff offer more concentrated flavor)
.75 oz Overproof Brandy/Cognac (Copper & Kings Butchertown is a really nice option here)
.5 oz Bigallet China-China Amer (an Amaro from Giffard in France with medium bittersweet flavors and a lot of orange peel notes; mimics the lost Amer Picon; Ramazzotti is probably the closest substitute)
.5 oz Sweet Vermouth (Carpano Antica or Cocchi Vermouth di Torino are both good options)
.5 oz Benedictine (French liqueur with notes of honey and saffron)
1 dash Bittermens Elemakule Tiki Bitters
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a lemon twist
