Outlaw Country

A delicious, tropical Manhattan riff from a recent Death & Co pop-up at Chicago’s Lost Lake with plenty of fruit and spice notes 🏝🥃🍍 The caramelized sugar and roasted pineapple notes in the rum and the splash of vanilla liqueur bring some bright tropical flavors that work nicely with the baking spice notes in the overproof bourbon and Italian Amaro (the latter also lends some nice bittersweet contrast). The Angostura bitters add notes of clove and allspice to round things out and an orange twist adds a bright citrus aroma
1.5 oz Plantation Stiggins Fancy Pineapple Rum
.5 oz Overproof Bourbon (Old Grand-dad 114 is a nice choice)
.5 oz Averna (Sicilian Amaro with mild bittersweet notes, baking spice and orange peel)
.25 oz Vanilla Syrup or Liqueur (Giffard or Licor 43 for the latter)
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with the essential oils from an orange twist (your choice whether to add twist to glass or discard)
