Ole Man Trouble

A bold, boozy, bittersweet, and brown Manhattan riff with notes of coffee, cocoa, vanilla
The bold caramel, vanilla, and baking spice notes in the bonded bourbon work nicely with the caramelized sugar notes in the aged cask strength rum and the coffee/dark fruit notes in the overproof dark rum to create a flavorful base. The bittersweet Hungarian Amaro adds notes of bitterness and a hint of orange peel that work nicely with the cocoa notes in the sweet vermouth while the coffee liqueur, coffee/cocoa, and orange bitters complement boost the flavors. A fantastic after dinner sipper (possibly while listening to drink’s namesake track off the excellent Otis Redding album, Otis Blue)! 1 oz Bonded Bourbon (Colonel EH Taylor is a great option; non-bonded bottle of your favorite will sub)
.5 oz Cask Strength Aged Rum (Chairman’s Reserve Master’s Selection is a fantastic option; an aged Demerara rum like El Dorado 8 yr would probably sub)
.5 oz Overproof Dark Rum (Plantation OFTD)
.5 oz Sweet Vermouth (Cocchi di Torino or Carpano)
.25 oz Zwack Unicum (Hungarian Amaro with medium bitterness and hint of citrus peels)
.25 oz Coffee Liqueur (St George NOLA, Mr Black, etc)
2 dashes Coffee and Cocoa Bitters (Crude Big Bear)
1 dash Orange Bitters
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. No garnish
