North Sea Oil

A lighter, but full-flavored Old Fashioned variation from Leo Robitschek of NYC’s NoMad Bar that brings some smoke and savory notes The caraway and fennel notes of the aged aquavit are complemented by the toffee and smoke notes from the Islay scotch aged in ex-sherry barrels while the white wine-based aperitif and orange liqueur lighten the drink and bring notes of citrus (further enhanced by the essential oils from the grapefruit twist) 1.5 oz Aged Aquavit (Linie is a Norwegian aged aquavit that works great) .5 oz Islay Scotch (Laphroaig 10 yr works great, want something with peat and a bit of sherry) .75 oz White wine-based aperitif (Cocchi Americano works great; Lillet can sub) .25 oz Orange Liqueur (Combier or Cointreau) Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with a grapefruit twist
