Lily Pad

An herbal, refreshing Daiquiri/Sidecar riff from LA bartender extraordinaire Devon Tarby that is great for enjoying during a warm evening or afternoon in late spring/summer 🐸 The cooling cucumber and melon notes in the aloe liqueur and the subtle botanicals and spices in the white wine-based Blanc vermouth work to soften the juniper and other botanical notes in the gin while also bridging the citrus. The muddled basil works with the cucumber and dash of absinthe to lend a green, anise note that works wonderfully with the other flavors Muddle 5 fresh basil leaves in .5 oz Simple Syrup (1:1) Add: 1.5 oz Gin (London Dry Style like Beefeater or Bombay) .5 oz Blanc/Bianco Vermouth (Dolin, Carpano, etc) .5 oz Aloe Liqueur (Chareau; distinct notes of cucumber and melon; dry finish for a liqueur) .75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice 1 dash Absinthe (can sub Herbsaint or Pernod) Pinch of salt Shake with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a basil leaf (smacking before adding to drink releases more of aroma)
