Let’s Save Tony Orlando’s House

A comforting, boozy Old Fashioned riff with robust flavors of orchard fruit and baking spice meant to pair with a delicious apple fritter from Bob’s Donuts 🍎🍐🍩
The roasted apple flavors in the aged apple brandy pair beautifully with the baking spice notes in the bonded rye whiskey and the vanilla notes in the grain whisky . A splash of spiced pear liqueur boosts the orchard fruit and baking spice notes while the bitters add notes of ginger, black pepper, allspice while also boosting the apple notes
1 oz Aged Apple Brandy (St George, Clear Creek, Osocalis; a nice Calvados could sub)
.5 oz Bonded Rye Whiskey (Rittenhouse, New Riff, etc)
.5 oz Japanese grain whisky (Nikka Coffey Grain)
.25 oz Spiced Pear Liqueur (St George; can also do .25 oz other pear liqueur plus a teaspoon of cinnamon bark syrup for approximation)
Tsp Rich Simple Syrup (2 parts unrefined sugar of choice to one volume water; stir until dissolved)
1 dash Barkeep Apple Bitters
1 dash Bittercube Jamaican Bitters #1 (ginger, allspice, black pepper)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with a pod of toasted star anise. If available, pair with an apple fritter or other apple/pear pastry
