A nuanced, slightly savory Scotch Manhattan riff from Shannon Tebay with notes of carrot, orange zest, and smoke šŸ„ƒšŸ„•šŸŠ The sherry-barrel aged Islay scotch has notes of honey, toffee, and smoky peat that is mellowed by the vanilla, cocoa, and subtle spice notes in the sweet vermouth. Splashes of carrot eau de vie and orange curaƧao bring complementary notes of sweet, earthy carrot and orange peel/zest while the sumac and preserved lemon notes from a dash of Moroccan bitters help boost the citrus and spice accents. A delicious sipper that would make an excellent nightcap 1.75 oz Aged Islay Single Malt Scotch (Bowmore 12 yr; Lagavulin 8 yr; Bruchladdich Port Charlotte 10 yr, etc) .75 oz Sweet Vermouth (Cocchi Vermouth di Torino or Carpano Antica are good here) .25 oz Carrot Eau de Vie (Reisetbauer makes an excellent bottle brimming with sweet yet earthy carrot flavor) .25 oz Orange CuraƧao (Pierre Ferrand Dry is my favorite option) 1 dash Bitter End Moroccan Bitters (notes of sumac, preserved lemon, and other North African elements) Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with an orange twist (expressing the essential oils from the peel over the surface of the drink first)
