La Batanga

A refreshing riff on the traditional Mexican Highball/Cuba Libre with notes of citrus, clove, vanilla, and cinnamon and a touch of salt
The duo of aged (reposado) tequilas have notes of citrus zest and cinnamon that complement the clove and vanilla notes in the cola. Fresh lime juice adds some zip and balancing acidity while a splash of Ancho chile liqueur adds a touch of spice while helping bridge the tequila and cola. A sea salt half rim helps the flavors pop
1.5 oz Reposado Tequila (El Tesoro, Arette, etc)
.5 oz Anejo Tequila (Arte Nom, Siembre Azul Birthday Blend (confusingly labeled as a Reposado despite being majority Anejo, etc; using 2 oz of Reposado is also fine, but the add of further Aged tequila adds more baking spice notes with the extra time the spirit spends in the barrel)
.5 oz Fresh Lime Juice
.25 oz Ancho Reyes Ancho Chile Liqueur
Shake with a few ice cubes and strain into a chilled Collins glass that has a sea salt half rim (rub cut surface of lime on half of the glass’ rim; roll in sea salt). Top with 3 oz of Cola (Mexican Coke or Fever Tree cola if available; regular Coke also works in a pinch). Stir glass briefly with knife that cut lime to mix in the cola
