A boldly flavored Old Fashioned riff from Death & Co NYC’s current menu 💎
The vanilla and oak barrel notes in the cask strength single malt scotch work well with other assertive, but complementary flavors of cardamom (from the bitters), coffee (liqueur), and fruit (passionfruit from liqueur, dark fruit/fig notes from Madeira). A stunner!
1.5 oz Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch (Amrut is called for in original recipe, but a version with vanilla/dark fruit/oak spice as prominent notes (without much peat) is probably best sub)
.5 oz Madeira (fortified wine with fig/dark fruit notes)
.25 oz Coffee Liqueur (St George, Mr Black, etc)
.25 oz Passionfruit Liqueur (Giffard)
1 dash Cardamom Bitters (Scrappy’s)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with an orange twist
