A boozy and refreshing Tiki classic that Beachbum Berry decoded from The Luau in 50’s era Beverly Hills that packs plenty of citrus, spice, and rum The cinnamon syrup and clove spice from the Falernum work in tandem with the blend of lime and grapefruit juice to lend some zest and zip to the molasses and dark fruit notes in the potent trio of rums 1 oz Black Blended Rum (Coruba, Myers, Goslings, etc) .75 oz Blended Aged Rum (El Dorado 8, Appleton Estate Reserve, etc) .75 oz Overproof Dark Rum (Plantation OFTD, Lemonhart 151, etc) .5 oz Velvet Falernum (John D Taylor, etc; clove and lime zest liqueur with rum base from Barbados) .5 oz Cinnamon Syrup (Crush 3-4 cinnamon sticks in equal parts granulated sugar and water; stir until sugar dissolves; simmer 4-5 minutes on medium-low heat before straining) .5 oz Fresh Lime Juice .5 oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice (if you can find it, white grapefruit varieties like Oro Blanco yield a delicious juice that works wonders in Tiki classics) 1 dash Herbsaint 1 dash Angostura Bitters Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with crushed ice.
