Inside the Sun

A bittersweet, yet tropical aperitif from drink wizard Sother Teague for the NYC Doom Tiki pop-up to enjoy before dinner 🏝🗿
The sugarcane notes and tropical aroma of the unaged cachaca works with the zippy ginger syrup, bright lemon juice, and the funk of the maraschino liqueur to Crete a refreshing, yet flavorful blend. The mildly bittersweet Amaro Montenegro brings a bittersweet undertone that works in nice contrast along with the Orange bitters and mellow floral and herbaceous notes of the Yellow Chartreuse to add nuance to each sip. The garnish of Peychaud’s bitters brings an eye-catching red pigment and gives each sip a cooling note of star anise that works very well with the Chartreuse
1 oz Unaged Cachaca (Avua Prata, Novo Fogo Silver, etc)
1 oz Amaro Montenegro (mildly bittersweet Italian Amaro with notes of orange peel and cola)
1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.5 oz Maraschino Liqueur (Luxardo or Leopold Brothers)
.5 oz Yellow Chartreuse (lower alcohol than its more famous Green sibling and more notes of honey with milder herbal notes)
.5 oz Ginger Syrup (juice one knob of ginger and measure yield; add 2 volumes of granulated sugar to one volume ginger juice and blend until uniform)
2 dashes Orange Bitters
Shake with ice and strain into a Collins glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish by “painting” the top of the drink with several dashes of Peychaud’s bitters and add a lime wedge
