Heart of Gold

An elegant Manhattan variation with flavors reminiscent of a delicious apple/fennel salad 🍏🍎 The delicious apple notes in the brandy are boosted by the sour apple liqueur (which also adds tart, dry notes without requiring citrus) and Blanc vermouth while the aged aquavit, celery bitters, and Abbott’s bitters add intriguing fennel, caraway, and spice notes 1.5 oz Apple Brandy (an aged version from St George, Clear Creek, Osocalis, etc gives a softer drink with fuller flavor but Laird’s bonded or Calvados could sub) .5 oz Aquavit (Linie is best, as it adds caraway with some additional barrel notes) .5 oz Blanc/Bianco Vermouth (Dolin, Carpano) .25 oz Leopold Brothers NY Sour Apple Liqueur 2 dashes Celery Bitters (Bitter Truth, Scrappy’s, etc) 1 dash Aromatic Bitters (I like Abbott’s, but Angostura, Fee Whiskey Barrel Aged, etc work) Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with a star anise pod
