Happy Little Fizz

A summertime riff on a Fizz that pairs fresh peaches from the Farmer’s market with citrus and stonefruit notes from a local hazy IPA 🍑🍺 The juniper and other botanical notes in gin work nicely with the hops in an IPA and citrus like lemon. To slightly soften things, the gin base was split between a more traditional style (that is citrus friendly) and the softer, sweeter Old Tom gin. The malort/besk adds a nice floral note and a touch of bittersweet and the orange liqueur boosts the peach and citrus notes in the beer. The use of honey syrup gives a complementary sweetness that works nicely with the peach and adds body. Very refreshing! Muddle 2-3 slices of fresh, ripe peach in .5 oz honey syrup (equal volumes honey and warm water; stir until honey is fully incorporated) Add: 1 oz Gin (bottle like Four Pillars, Fords, Plymouth that work nicely with citrus are good, but Beefeater, Tanqueray, etc should also be good) .5 oz Old Tom Gin (Hayman’s is most widely available bottle that would be good, but Scofflaw is also fantastic; don’t use Ransom as it is too malty/Spivey for this use) .5 oz Malort (you want a balanced craft option like Few, Letherbee; not Jeppson’s) .75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice .25 oz Orange Liqueur (Mandarine Napoleon is great; other brandy based options like Grand Marnier would be good but Cointreau works in a pinch) Shake with ice and strain into a chilled Collins glass with ice cubes. Top with 1.5 oz of citrus and stonefruit forward hazy IPA (Humblesea’s Bob Ross-influenced offering pictured above and responsible for the drink name, but lots of locally available options). Garnish with a swizzle stick
