Gunga Din

A refreshing, spiced Tiki-fied riff on a Gin & Tonic from Brooklyn bartending ace St John Frizell 🏝🍹🍍 The botanical notes in the blend of gins (London dry for expected pine and juniper notes; Navy strength for a bit of oomph and citrus zest; Monkey 47 for floral and other botanical notes) work very well with both the spice notes in the cardamom bitters and the slightly bitter effervescence of the tonic water while the tart lime juice and tropical pineapple help add acidity and brightness. Great on a hot weekend afternoon! 2 oz Gin (Can use just London Dry Gin like Beefeaters, Tanqueray, Old Raj; but I like the nuance brought from layering 1 oz of London Dry, .5 oz of a more aromatic gin (Monkey 47, Hendricks, etc), and .5 oz of Navy Strength oomph (Genius, Perry’s, etc) 1 oz Fresh Pineapple Juice .75 oz Fresh Lime Juice .75 oz Simple Syrup (equal volumes of granulated sugar and water; stir until dissolved) 1 dash Scrappy’s Cardamom Bitters (could also muddle 3 green cardamom pods in the simple syrup before adding other ingredients if you can’t find the bitters) Shake with ice and strain into a chilled Hurricane glass filled with crushed ice. Top with 1.5-2 oz Tonic Water (Fever Tree, Q, etc). Garnish with pineapple leaves and a swizzle stick #weekendtiki
