Guatemalan Square

A Rum-forward Vieux Carre/Manhattan riff from NYC’s Sother Teague that features notes of cocoa, vanilla, and orange 🍫🍨🍊 The vanilla and spice notes in the blended aged rum take the place of the cognac and the rye brings notes of oak and spice while the vermouth brings notes of cocoa, spice, and dark fruits that mingle with the dry orange sweetness of the Curaçao that is subbed for the Benedictine. The spice notes in the bitters tie everything together 1 oz Blended Aged Rum (the vanilla forward notes of a Solera-style South American rum like Zacapa or Santa Teresa work best, but El Dorado 12 or Diplomatico could sub) .5 oz Rye Whiskey(Bonded Rye like Rittenhouse is best) .5 oz Sweet Vermouth (Carpano or Cocchi Torino are best) .25 oz Orange Curaçao (drier version like Pierre Ferrand is best) 2 dashes Bitter Truth Creole or Peychaud’s Bitters 2 dashes Aromatic Bitters (Angostura, Abbott’s, Miracle Mile Forbidden, etc) Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. Garnish with an orange twist
