A warming, tropical Old Fashioned/Fancy Free riff from Matthew Belanger of Death & Co LA that is overflowing with fruit and baking spice notes 🥃🍒🍨 The vanilla and baking spice notes in the cask strength whiskey combine with the brown sugar and tropical fruit notes in the aged Demerara rum to create a flavorful base that helps highlight the Maraschino cherry and passionfruit notes from the liqueur. The dash of Tiki bitters adds complementary notes of ginger and cinnamon and the grapefruit twist adds a bright aroma 1 oz Cask Strength or Bonded American Whiskey (Dickel Single Barrel works well, but a nice bourbon like Blanton’s or EH Taylor would also be nice) 1 oz Blended Aged Demerara Rum (El Dorado 15 yr is a great choice) 2 teaspoons Maraschino Liqueur (Luxardo) 1 tsp Passionfruit Liqueur (Giffard; Passionfruit syrup could sub in a pinch) 1 dash Bittermens Elemakule Tiki Bitters Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube.
