Forgotten Works

A summery, refreshing gin sour with watermelon 🍉 that has a layering of flavors that are more complex than meets the eye
The botanical notes in the gin pair well with watermelon and lime while the Aperitivo lends a bittersweet background note and the cucumber/melon notes in the Chareau and the peppery, green undertones in the Serrano simple syrup yield a bright and fresh overall drink
2 oz Gin (variety like Plymouth or Four Pillars that works well with citrus is best)
.75 oz Fresh Watermelon Juice
.5 oz Fresh Lime Juice
.25 oz Aperitivo of choice (Campari is most widely available but Leopold Bros Aperitivo or St George Bruto are both great)
.25 oz Chareau Aloe Liqueur (cucumber/melon forward aloe vera liqueur; if not available could sub 2-3 slices of cucumber to muddle in the syrup before adding other ingredients)
.25 oz Serrano Simple Syrup (dice 2-3 Serrano chilies per cup of simple syrup; stir together 1:1 simple syrup until sugar dissolves, bring to near boil, simmer with diced Serrano for 10 minutes, strain)
1 dash Crude Rizzo or Bittermens Hopped Grapefruit Bitters
1 pinch of kosher salt
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a few ice cubes. Garnish with a small wedge of watermelon
