Escape Hatch

An incredibly refreshing, tropical Highball riff from Chris Elford of Seattle’s excellent bar Navy Strength that is perfect for sipping on the back porch as the weather warms up 🏝🥥 The blended aged rum provides notes of molasses and caramelized sugar to provide a solid foundation while the German Amaro (Jagermeister; when not done as shots while already drunk in college, actually a lot of complexity) lends some complex herbal notes (and a touch of cinnamon) and the Falernum adds notes of cloves and lime zest while also adding sweetness. The fresh lemon juice brings bright acidity and the coconut water lengthens the drink while also bringing subtle refreshing coconut flavor
1.5 oz Blended Aged Rum (a Venezuelan rum like Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva or Santa Teresa 1796 are great options)
.75 oz Jagermeister (lots of bittersweet, herbal notes to add complexity; not just for college parties)
.5 oz Falernum (rum-based liqueur with clove and lime zest from Barbados)
.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
Shake with ice and strain into a Tiki mug or chilled Collins glass with ice cubes. Top with 3 oz coconut water. Garnish with a swizzle stick (can also add a sprig of fresh mint or a cinnamon stick, if handy)
