Edge of the Edge

A refreshing summertime Margarita riff with notes of strawberries and rhubarb 🍹🍓🍋
The blend of unaged tequila and mezcal results in a base with notes of citrus zest, pepper, and a touch of smoke that complement the sweet flavors from the ripe strawberry, the earthy and bittersweet notes in the rhubarb amaro, and the bright citrus. Splashes of strawberry liqueur and simple syrup help boost the berry flavors and balance the drink while a splash of Amaro soda helps lengthen the drink and add effervescence and the sprig of fresh basil adds a pleasant aroma with each sip
Muddle 3-4 hulled and quartered ripe strawberries in .5 oz Simple Syrup
Add:
1 oz Blanco Tequila (Look for 100% agave bottlings; Tapatio, El Tesoro, Fortaleza, etc)
.5 oz Mezcal (Espadin variety, like Del Maguey Vida or Koch)
.5 oz Rhubarb Amaro (Zucca; Amaro Sfumato would also work well)
.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.25 oz Strawberry Liqueur
Pinch of salt
Shake with ice and double strain into a chilled coupe. Top with 1 oz of Amaro soda (Casamara Club Sera or Alta would both be great; soda water works alright as a sub but maybe also add a dash of Angostura bitters to the tune before shaking as well). Garnish with a hulled fresh strawberry and a sprig of fresh basil
