A zippy summer-appropriate riff on the Buck from A16’s Shelley Lindgren featuring ripe strawberries 🍓 🍹 The vanilla and baking spice notes in the rye whiskey are a delicious pairing with the ripe fruit notes in the muddled strawberry while the ginger syrup helps add some bite and the honey syrup helps bring out the berry flavor. The addition of fresh lime juice and sparkling lemonade help balance the drink’s acidity while the rhubarb bitters add some complementary flavors and the fresh basil garnish lends a pleasant aroma Muddle 2 strawberries (hulled and sliced in half in .25 oz Honey Syrup (mix equal volumes honey and warm water; stir until mixed)) Add: 2 oz Rye Whiskey (New Riff has nice vanilla notes; Rittenhouse has nice baking spice notes, etc) .75 oz Fresh Lime Juice .5 oz Ginger Syrup (Juice one knob of ginger and measure volume; add 2 volumes of granulated sugar and stir until fully blended) 2 dashes Crude Rhubarb Bitters (Fee Brothers works in a pinch) Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a few ice cubes. Top with 1.5 oz sparkling lemonade (can also top with club soda as a sub, but add 1 oz of Lime Juice in that case). Garnish with a leaf of fresh basil
