Cold Blooded Old Times

A rich, comforting Old Fashioned riff highlighting the flavor pairing between autumnal orchard fruits and tropical guava π₯πππ₯§π
The apple and pear notes in the Calvados (French brandy distilled from orchard fruits), the caramelized sugar, baking spice, and fruit notes in the aged Armagnac (French brandy from Gascogne region) and the vanilla and baking spice notes in the Bonded Rye combine to create a rich and fruity base that works in great harmony with the floral and fruit notes found in the guava syrup. Splashes of rich, nutty Sherry and spiced pear liqueur boost the orchard fruit and baking spice notes while also adding a note of candied nuts. The dashes of bitters add complementary notes of ginger, cinnamon and rich maple syrup. A delicious autumnal after-dinner sipper
1 oz aged Calvados (French brandy distilled from apples; sometimes with some pears included; recommend bottles like LeMorton or Pacory here that do use both orchard fruits)
.5 oz Aged Armagnac (French brandy from Gascogne region that tend be a bit bolder than those from neighboring Cognac region; bottles in Tenereze or Bas-Armagnac style are both nice)
.5 oz Bonded Rye Whiskey (New Riff has nice vanilla and baking spice notes; Rittenhouse is also great)
.25 oz Guava Syrup (Add 2 Tbsp guava paste to 1/4 C warm water and heat on medium-low heat with occasional stirring to reduce the guava paste into a syrup; lower heat to low before mixture reaches a boil and simmer until guava paste and water are fully integrated)
1/2 Tsp Cream or Solera style Sherry (Lustau East India Solera works well)
1/2 Tsp St George Spiced Pear Liqueur (I love this product with brown spirits in the fall; a regular pear liqueur can sub but I definitely recommend trying to find the St Georgeβs bottle)
1 dash Bittermens Elemakule Tiki Bitters (ginger and cinnamon notes)
1 dash Urban Moonshine Maple Bitters
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with a lemon twist (first expressing essential oils from the lemon over the drink)
