Cider House Rules

A spiced Manhattan variation that is reminiscent of a nice glass of apple cider near the camp fire
The Calvados lends a delicious apple-forward base that is complemented by the cinnamon/clove/cardamom in the Swedish Glögg liqueur, the subtle cocoa and fruit notes in the Vermouth, and the spices in the bitters. The smoke and hint of sherried sweetness from the Islay scotch give a nice smoky note to each sip
1.5 oz Calvados (can probably sub a nice, aged apple brandy)
.5 oz Islay Scotch (I love Caol Ila, but Laphroaig 10 probably works as a sub, but is more overpoweringly smoky)
.5 oz Geijer Glögg Liqueur (basically Swedish mulled wine with all of its warm baking spices in tasty liqueur form; a great bottle)
.25 oz Sweet Vermouth (Cocchi di Torino is a nice choice, though Carpano also probably works nicely at this volume)
2 dashes Aromatic Bitters of choice (Abbott’s, Angostura, etc)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled coupe. No garnish
