Char #8

A brown and bitter Old Fashioned riff from a master in that category, Sother Teague from NYC’s outstanding Amor y Amargo 🥃
The oak, cinnamon, and vanilla notes in the bourbon base are accented by the peat, honey, and dark fruit notes in the scotch while the rhubarb-based Amaro adds bittersweet notes (and a bit of juicyness) and the clove-forward bitters provide a nice spice note
1.5 oz Bourbon .25 oz Islay Scotch (peat-forward offerings like Ardbeg 10, Laphroaig, Bruichladdich Port Charlotte or a peat-forward blend like Compass Box Peat Monster are best)
.25 oz Rhubarb Amaro (Zucca or Amaro Sfumato both work)
2 dashes Bitter Truth Jerry Thomas’ Own Decanter Bitters (clove and other baking spice-forward bitters)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. No garnish
