California Chrome

A spiced, layered riff on the Brown Derby/Blinker from Chris Amirault of LA’s Otium
The addition of the fivespice powder brings a welcome spice-forward flavor that works really well with the Rye and grapefruit juice (almost like Don’s mix in the Tiki world) while the honey syrup adds some depth
2 oz Rye Whiskey (spicier versions are best)
1 oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice
.5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.5 oz Honey Syrup (3 parts honey: 1 part warm water, stir until dissolved)
1/4 teaspoon Fivespice Powder
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a few ice cubes. Garnish with a grapefruit twist
