A rich, smoky Irish whiskey Old Fashioned riff from Death & Co’s Tyson Buhler with notes of honey, molasses, and a touch of root beer and smoke for your St Patty’s Day sipping 🥃🍀🍯
The Aged Irish whiskey offers notes of honey and cereal grain that are accented by the dark molasses notes in the blackstrap rum and the toffee and peat notes in the Islay scotch. A splash of demerara syrup with sarsaparilla extract adds a complementary root beer notes while the dash of bitters add complementary allspice and clove notes and the orange twist adds a pleasant citrus aroma. Happy St Pats!
1.5 oz Aged Irish Whiskey (Redbreast 12 yr; Knappogue Castle 12; Green Spot, etc)
.5 oz Blackstrap Rum (Cruzan makes a nice bottle)
.25 oz Islay Scotch (Laphroaig 10 yr is a good choice to add some smoke notes with a touch of sherry)
Tsp Sarsaparilla Demerara syrup (2 parts demerara sugar: 1 part water; stir until sugar has dissolved; add a few drops sarsaparilla extract)
1 dash Angostura Bitters (Bitter Truth Aromatic would also be good way to boost root beer notes)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with an orange twist
