Bramble On

A refreshing agave-forward riff on Dick Bradsell’s modern classic Bramble
The blend of Mezcal and Aquavit creates a base with notes of citrus zest, star anise, and a touch of smoke that works really nicely with the jammy sweet/tart notes from the liqueur and fresh blackberries while the bright, tart lime juice helps brighten and balance the drink and the dash of ginger and allspice-forward bitters boost the spice notes. Delicious!
Muddle 2-3 fresh blackberries in 2 tsp simple syrup (equal parts granulated sugar and water; stir until dissolved. An agave syrup would be a nice sub here)
Add:
1.5 oz Mezcal (Espadin variety)
.5 oz Aquavit (a bottle like Krogstad with more star anise than dill notes works better here)
1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
.5 oz Blackberry Liqueur (Giffard or Leopold Brothers)
1 dash Bittercube Jamaican #1 Bitters (ginger, allspice, black pepper notes)
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a few ice cubes. Garnish with a lime wheel and blackberry
