Bourbon Hot Chocolate

A rich, comforting sipper to enjoy around the fire during the holidays 🔥🍫 The combination of the rich whole milk, dark cocoa powder, bit of cayenne and the cinnamon/vanilla/spice of the bourbon is fantastic and taken up another notch by the addition of either some bourbon whipped cream or (if feeling ambitious) a Green Chartreuse marshmallow
Cocoa Mix (recipe from Sother Teague; makes many helpings):
2 Cups Powdered Sugar
1 Cup Cocoa (Dutch Process is best)
2.5 Cups Powdered Milk (if available , powdered whole milk provides richer flavor)
1 tsp Salt
2 tsp corn starch .5 tsp Cayenne Pepper
Whisk until uniformly mixed
To make Bourbon Hot Cocoa:
2 Tbsp Cocoa Mix
3 oz Warm Milk (whole milk provides better flavor)
2 oz Bourbon (Bonded Bourbon like Wild Turkey 101, Henry McKenna 10 yr, etc are great choice)
Build in mug, can top with bourbon whipped cream* or Green Chartreuse marshmallow^. Happy Holidays! *Bourbon Whipped Cream (recipe from Brad Thomas Parsons’ Bitters):
Beat 3/4 Cup Heavy Cream until has just started to thicken, pause and add:
2 Tbsp Light Brown Sugar
.5 tsp Vanilla Extract
Splash of Bourbon
Resume beating until you obtain soft peaks, refrigerate until ready for use
