Blueberry Boat

A riff on the Spritz that pairs a flavorful blueberry syrup with some Amaros/aperitivos that have complementary flavors. Works well on a warm summer afternoon or as a before dinner drink 1 oz Cappelletti (aperitivo that brings many of the bitter and citrus notes of Campari along with some extra vanilla and funk) .5 oz Amaro Montenegro .25 oz Cynar (regular or 70 proof both work) .25 oz Sweet Vermouth (vanilla notes from Carpano work nicely here) 1 oz Fresh Lemon Juice .5 oz blueberry syrup* .25 oz Orgeat Shake with ice, strain into glass with a few ice cubes. Top with 1.5 oz club soda. Garnish with a few blueberries *Blueberry syrup can be made by steeping 1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen) with 1/2 cup water. After a minute, add 1/2 cup granulated sugar and lemon zest, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Once the mixture is near boiling, turn heat down to medium-low and simmer for 5 minutes. Once cooled, strain into a container and store in the refrigerator (reserve berries for other use (great in salad, atop ice cream, or as a garnish for drinks). Imagine this syrup would also work well with ice cream, pancakes/waffles/french toast, as a base for a vinaigrette, etc
