Bitter Mocha Old-Fashioned

A bittersweet Old Fashioned riff from San Diego drink wizard Erick Castro that is perfect for after dinner sipping 🥃☕️🍫🍊
The vanilla and toasted oak notes in the bourbon work very nicely with the bittersweet notes of the coffee liqueur and Amaro while the splash of Creme de cacao and dash of bitters add some rich chocolate notes that complement the other flavors and the orange zest garnish adds a bright citrus aroma
2 oz Bourbon (Elijah Craig is really nice here due to its vanilla notes)
.25 oz Creme de Cacao (Tempus Fugit)
1/2 tsp Coffee Liqueur* (St George NOLA, Mr Black, etc)
1/2 tsp Medium Bittersweet Amaro of choice* (Amaro Dell’Etna, Amaro Nardini, Amaro Montenegro, etc)
1 dash Chocolate or Chocolate and Coffee Bitters (Scrappy’s, Bitter Truth, Crude, etc)
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with a sprinkling of orange zest
*If handy, J Rieger makes a Caffe Amaro that combines both the coffee liqueur and amaro. If using this bottle, just add .25 oz vs 1/2 tsp each as above
