Believing Is Art

A summery, whiskey-centric riff on the Tiki classic Donโs Own Grog brimming with berry and dark fruit notes ๐๐ฅ
The blend of bourbon, rye, and Japanese grain whiskies brings flavors of caramelized sugar, vanilla custard, and a hint of cinnamon and baking spice that works really nicely with the fruit notes in the blueberry syrup. The fresh lemon juice balances the drink with bright citrus notes while the pomegranate molasses (grenadine also works) adds depth to both the berry and tart elements in the drink. The vanilla liqueur underscores the vanilla notes in the whiskies and the bitters add notes of warming spice and ginger. Delicious!
1 oz Bourbon (Buffalo Trace, Rebel Yell, Evan Williams, etc)
.5 oz Rye (Bonded options like Rittenhouse or New Riff bring some spice notes that are nice here)
.5 oz Japanese Grain Whisky (Nikka Coffey Grain; a smoother, creamier sip with notes of vanilla custard)
.75 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.5 oz Blueberry Syrup (add 1/2 cup each of blueberries, granulated sugar and water to pot on medium heat; stir until sugar dissolves and near boil; turn down to low and simmer 5 minutes; using the back of a spoon to pop the berries and release their juice; strain)
.25 oz Vanilla Liqueur (Giffard or Licor 43; can also sub a vanilla syrup)
1/8 tsp pomegranate molasses (can sub a nice grenadine like from Small Hand Foods)
1 dash Bitter End Moroccan Bitters (has notes of lemon-y sumac)
1 dash Bittercube Jamaican Bitters #1 (ginger and allspice notes)
Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with a few fresh blueberries and a sprig of fresh mint. #weekendtiki
