Apple Kickin’

A comforting, boldly flavored Old Fashioned riff from Justin Kaderabek of Chicago’s Monteverde 🍎 The malt/cereal/honey notes from the Japanese whisky pair very well with the apple notes in the Calvados and the bittersweet/baking spice notes of the Amaro and bitters. The rich simple syrup adds a touch of almost maple syrup sweetness to round things out 1.5 oz Japanese Blended Whisky (Suntory Toki, etc) .75 oz Calvados or Apple Brandy .25 oz Amaro Sibilla (Italian amaro with notes of coffee, honey, dried fruit, herbs to go with bittersweetness) .25 oz Rich Simple Syrup (2:1) 1 dash Angostura or other aromatic bitters of choice (feel free to boost the apple flavor by adding another dash of Bar Keep apple bitters) Stir with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a large ice cube. If handy, can garnish with a dried apple slice
