Ain’t No Joke

Brought out some big guns from the whiskey department to make myself a birthday worthy drink for the late fall 🍎🥃 Autumnal flavors overflow in this sipper with the spiced apple notes in the apple butter being boosted by the cinnamon/oak/vanilla/caramel notes in the single barrel bourbon, the baking spice and roasted pecan notes of the wheated bourbon, the sherry and peat in the Islay Scotch, the maple, vanilla, and candied nut flavors from the maple syrup, Licor 43, and Blended Sherry. The lemon juice and apple bitters round out the decadent spiced apple cider with a side of pie flavors 1 oz Single Barrel Bourbon (Elmer T Lee pictured is for special occasions, but Russell’s Reserve or Four Roses will sub ably) .5 oz Wheated Bourbon (Weller Antique to celebrate, but Bernheim or Smooth Ambler Big Level can sub) .5 oz Islay Scotch (I like the Sherry and smoke notes in the Caol Ila 12, but Laphroaig or Lagavulin definitely sub) .5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice .25 oz Maple Syrup (Grade B offers deeper maple flavor) .25 oz Lustau East India Sherry (Blend of oloroso and PX Sherry that lends nutty sweetness) 2 teaspoons Apple Butter 1 teaspoon Licor 43 (Spanish Liqueur with vanilla-forward flavor and subtle spice) 2 dashes Barkeep Apple Bitters Shake with ice and strain into a chilled double rocks glass with a couple ice cubes. Garnish with an apple fan dusted with freshly grated cinnamon #weekendtiki
